From expensive down to cheap
Since we saw the first Amazon Kindle at a price range of $399 it is hard to believe that you can now get an Amazon Kindle brand new for only $114 and less. It does sound to good to be true, but do not fear as always with prices that is to good to be true, there is a catch to it. Amazon can afford the low price of the Kindle as they signed up advertisers in the promotion of their products and services on the screen of the Kindle while the screen saver is on or during hibernation.
Displaying of sponsored ads
The older Kindles used author’s pictures or well known speakers on their screens and it has never been regarded as intrusive, in fact it could actually enhance the reading experiences of individuals. The sponsored ads however are companies such as Chase bank, Olay, Buick, and Visa who already signed up with Amazon. Amazon themselves will also display some of their ads on the screen savers as well as the home screen. Consumers however feel it will not be as intrusive as ads from other companies as many are Amazon shoppers and it may be helpful as well as bargain can be picked up this way from Amazon themselves.
The Amazon Kindle with sponsored ads also allows for a new application on the Kindle, called AppMash, which will allow the owner to determine the different types of ads, which will be acceptable. It is assumed that if you are a man and it is registered under your name, you will probably not see Olay moisturizing ads to often and Amazon will go with the choices of the masses instead of individual consumers. Good news is that the ads will not be displayed in the reading area of the kindle, so it will in no way affect your reading experience.
Will they gain more customers?
The debate is on whether more consumers will go for the cheaper Amazon Kindle, which will be released in May 2011. It will start shipping on May 3 as well as be available in Target and Best Buy shops on the same date. They have lowered the price consistently since the first release of $399 in 2007, but this will be the first and lowest price with the inclusion of ads. Amazon is said to have quite an aggressive campaign to lure more consumers to their product and away from the latest iPad from Apple as well as the growing number of competitors that keeps on popping up.
Although some consumers do not like the idea of ads popping up on the screen, Amazon reckons more consumers will like the idea of money saving offers available to them. They recently had a demo of the latest Kindle and it showed deal where a customer would for example pay only $10 for a $20 Amazon gift card. They will have all such special deals available for their Amazon Kindle users.
