Flash Player 3D Future

Flash Player 3D Future

Software developer Adobe will add 3D capabilities to the next version of its popular technology Flash. The product will probably be presented in October, when the conference is scheduled Adobe Max, which provides session “Flash Player 3D Future”

Conference participants will learn the details of three-dimensional graphics capabilities of Adobe Flash next-generation. “You see something, that no one has ever seen,” said Thibault Imbert, a Flash product manager at Adobe.

Recently Flash technology is strongly criticized, especially by Apple, because it consumes many system resources and creates problems. From Cupertino company said it will not support Flash in its portable iPhone, iPad or iTouch. People of Steve Jobs rely on alternative HTML5.

However, many analysts believe that Adobe will make the necessary changes to its technology so as to retain its dominant market position.

The session will be October 27 in Los Angeles.

Accelerate Pace Of Chrome

Google ChromeOver the next few months, we are going to be rolling out a new release process to accelerate the pace at which Google Chrome stable releases become available. Running under ideal conditions, we will be looking to release a new stable version about once every six weeks, roughly twice as often as we do today.

Chrome developers plan to sharply reduce the intervals between the stable versions of the browser. All updates will appear immediately in the test versions, and final edition will be released every six weeks, which is two more often than now, said the Chrome’s blog.

Finished versions will include features allready reached mature and stable code. Outstanding new opportunities will be available only in test versions.
Google’s engineers will stabilize developments within one cycle of preparing a release. It will thus be reduced significantly for consumers to wait for interesting innovations, while maintaining the stability of versions.

Chrome’s popularity is growing rapidly among Internet users. The browser is part of Google’s strategy to offer complete protection of its users. As is known, the company successfully requires a set of web-based applications and soon will launch and operating system.

Online Support How It Works

Online SupportSo, how I decided to write this article? In my daily work, I encounter many computer problems and almost for each of these computer problems, that I’m trying to solve has a whole story. There is some computer problems, that could be fixed easily and quickly, also there is others computer problems, that are more complex, requiring more time,  more patience, advanced diagnostic skills and depth knowledge, but most important here  is, that more than 97% of all computer problems could be solved  remotely. However, the topic of this article does not apply to computer problems, but rather with the ways and methods of how to solve computer problems online.

Despite the technological boom, there are still many people who don’t understand what does exactly means online support or remote desktop help or any others like these. First of all I’ll try to give some basic information on what is online support means and how it works, then I’ll put some suggestions and short reviews of  some of the most used software products in the Remote Desktop industry.

In any aspects this is a software package, that allows you to access any remote computer via Internet just like sitting in front of it – even through firewalls. Speed Up PC Boot with StartUp Delayer

StartUp DelayerOnce installed, many programs are loaded when your computer is booting. The problem starts, when these programs becomes too many and all of them try to start simultaneously, fighting for CPU cycles and disk access. For average computer it tends to take ages to load everything to the extent you can’t even move your mouse. One of common methods usually used by computer is by removing the the start up programs via Run.. > msconfig. This will effectively kill the startUp process of your choice but another issue arise. You may not want to kill the program, you just don’t want it to compromise your windows load time.

Wouldn’t it be great if we can somehow delay the loading process of these programs so that we don’t reach the bottleneck when our computers start to kick off? So here is another useful program you might want to put under your sleeves.

StartUp Delayer is a free software that will allow you to control the applications that starts in the same time when you power on your computer. This application, improves the time needed for geting access on your desktop due to fact that you can control the order for each program that wants to start. You can delay applications that are not so important or those who you won’t use them right away. You can specify the delay in seconds or in minutes by accessing the clean and intuitive program interface. StartUp Delayer is an effective program in order to cure Windows boot bottleneck problem. I know the name of this software doesn’t evoke thoughts of faster load but It will allow you to setup how many seconds after Windows has started, to load each application. It configures timed delays for each application that starts after Windows boots up. So in some ways it manages a better way of Windows load process by prioritizing the system processes and delaying the not-so-important programs.

So, by using StartUp Delayer, you can space out the start time for each application. The tweaking of the timing might be tricky though and needs multiple boots to fine tune the things just right. However there’s automatic mode so the feature should come handy.

P.S.

As a golden rule, make sure to avoid adding the same amount of time for each application that you want to delay. For example if you want to delay one program to 1 minute do no set the other ones to 1 minute. Set one program for 55 seconds, another one for 50 sec and so on. This program has been tested on Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista and it should work excellent on all versions. We have also tested this application for spyware, adware or any other form of malware or viruses and we have found it to be clean.

Remember, that this is a very small part of the instruments mentioned in 100 Ways to tweak your computer. You may consider to learn some other way of How to tweak your computer. Any comments, ideas and reviews are welcome.

Performance & Productivity

51. Find bottlenecks

From what we’ve seen so far Windows 7 is already performing better than Vista, but if your PC seems sluggish then it’s now much easier to uncover the bottleneck. Click Start, type RESMON and press Enter to launch the Resource Monitor, then click the CPU, Memory, Disk or Network tabs. Windows 7 will immediately show which processes are hogging the most system resources.

Resource MonitorThe CPU view is particularly useful, and provides something like a more powerful version of Task Manager. If a program has locked up, for example, then right-click its name in the list and select Analyze Process. Windows will then try to tell you why it’s hanging – the program might be waiting for another process, perhaps – which could give you the information you need to fix the problem.

FIND BOTTLENECKS: Resource monitor keeps a careful eye on exactly how your PC is being used.

 52. Keyboard shortcuts

Windows 7 supports several useful new keyboard shortcuts.

Alt+P

Display/ hide the Explorer preview pane

Windows Logo+G

Display gadgets in front of other windows

Windows Logo++ (plus key)

Zoom in, where appropriate

Windows Logo+- (minus key)

Zoom out, where appropriate

Windows Logo+Up

Maximise the current window

Windows Logo+Down

Minimise the current window

Windows Logo+Left

Snap to the left hand side of the screen

Windows Logo+Right

Snap to the right hand side of the screen

Windows Logo+Home

Minimise/ restore everything except the current window

53. Drag and drop to the command line

When working at the command line you’ll often need to access files, which usually means typing lengthy paths and hoping you’ve got them right. But Windows 7 offers an easier way. Simply drag and drop the file onto your command window and the full path will appear, complete with quotes and ready to be used.

This feature isn’t entirely new: you could do this in Windows XP, too, but drag and drop support disappeared in Vista. There does seem to be a new Windows 7 complication, though, in that it only seems to work when you open the command prompt as a regular user. Run cmd.exe as an administrator and, while it accepts dropped files, the path doesn’t appear.

54. Customise your jumplists

Right-click an icon on your taskbar, perhaps Notepad, and you’ll see a jumplist menu that provides easy access to the documents you’ve been working on recently. But maybe there’s another document that you’d like to be always available? Then drag and drop it onto the taskbar icon, and it’ll be pinned to the top of the jumplist for easier access. Click the pin to the right of the file name, or right-click it and select “Unpin from this list” when you need to remove it.

55. Faster program launches

If you’ve launched one instance of a program but want to start another, then don’t work your way back through the Start menu. It’s much quicker to just hold down Shift and click on the program’s icon (or middle-click it), and Windows 7 will start a new instance for you.

56. Speedy video access

Want faster access to your Videos folder? Windows 7 now lets you add it to the Start menu. Just right-click the Start orb, click Properties > Start Menu > Customize, and set the Videos option to “Display as a link”. If you’ve a TV tuner that works with Windows 7 then you’ll appreciate the new option to display the Recorded TV folder on the Start menu, too.

57. Run web searches

The Windows 7 search tool can now be easily extended to search online resources, just as long as someone creates an appropriate search connector. To add Flickr support, say, visit I Started Something, click Download the Connector, choose the Open option and watch as it’s downloaded (the file is tiny, it’ll only take a moment). A “Flickr Search” option will be added to your Searches folder, and you’ll be able to search images from your desktop.

A multitude of other ready-made searches, such as Google and YouTube, can be downloaded from the windowsclub.com website.

58. Schedule Media Centre downloads

You can now tell Windows Media Centre to download data at a specific time, perhaps overnight, a useful way to prevent it sapping your bandwidth for the rest of the day. Launch Media Centre, go to Tasks > Settings > General > Automatic Download Options, and set the download start and stop times that you’d like it to use.

59. Multi-threaded Robocopies

Anyone who’s ever used the excellent command-line robocopy tool will appreciate the new switches introduced with Windows 7. Our favourite, /MT, can improve speed by carrying out multi-threaded copies with the number of threads you specify (you can have up to 128, though that might be going a little too far). Enter robocopy /? at a command line for the full details.

60. Load IE faster

Some Internet Explorer add-ons can take a while to start, dragging down the browser‘s performance, but at least IE8 can now point a finger at the worst resource hogs. Click Tools > Manage Add-ons, check the Load Time in the right-hand column, and you’ll immediately see which browser extensions are slowing you down.

61. An Alt+Tab alternative

You want to access one of the five Explorer windows you have open, but there are so many other programs running that Alt+Tab makes it hard to pick out what you need. The solution? Hold down the Ctrl key while you click on the Explorer icon. Windows 7 will then cycle through the Explorer windows only, a much quicker way to locate the right one. And of course this works with any application that has multiple windows open.

62. Block annoying alerts

Just like Vista, Windows 7 will display a suitably stern warning if it thinks your antivirus, firewall or other security settings are incorrect.

But unlike Vista, if you disagree then you can now turn off alerts on individual topics. If you no longer want to see warnings just because you’ve dared to turn off the Windows firewall, say, then click Control Panel > System and Security > Action Centre > Change Action Centre settings, clear the Network Firewall box and click OK.

63. Parallel defrags

The standard Windows 7 defragger offers a little more control than we saw in Vista, and the command line version also has some interesting new features. The /r switch will defrag multiple drives in parallel, for instance (they’ll obviously need to be physically separate drives for this to be useful). The /h switch runs the defrag at a higher than normal priority, and the /u switch provides regular progress reports so you can see exactly what’s going on. Enter the command

defrag /c /h /u /r

in a command window to speedily defrag a system with multiple drives, or enter defrag /? to view the new options for yourself.

64. Fix Explorer

The Windows 7 Explorer has a couple of potential annoyances. Launching Computer will no longer display system folders like Control Panel or Recycle Bin, for instance. And if you’re drilling down through a complicated folder structure in the right-hand pane of Explorer, the left-hand tree won’t always expand to follow what you’re doing, which can make it more difficult to see exactly where you are. Fortunately there’s a quick fix: click Organize > Folder and Search Options, check “Show all folders” and “Automatically expand to current folder”, and click OK.

65. Faster file handing

If you hold down Shift while right-clicking a file in Explorer, then you’ll find the Send To file now includes all your main user folders: Contacts, Documents, Downloads, Music and more. Choose any of these and your file will be moved there immediately.

66. Create folder favourites

If you’re regularly working on the same folder in Explorer then select it in the right-hand page, right-click Favourites on the left-hand menu, and select Add to Favourites. It’ll then appear at the bottom of the favourites list for easy one-click access later.

67. Disable hibernation

By default Windows 7 will permanently consume a chunk of your hard drive with its hibernation file, but if you never use sleep, and always turn your PC off, then this will never actually be used. To disable hibernation and recover a little hard drive space, launch REGEDIT, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power, then set both HibernateEnabled and HiberFileSizePerfect to zero.

Track Down Your Stolen Laptop

Stolen LaptopPrey Developer project created cross-platform open source software, which increases the likelihood of detection of lost or stolen laptop. In essence, Prey resembles the famous Adeona and is triggered when the laptop is connected to the Internet. By default, the application works in passive mode and periodically check the signs for the activation of it’s principal function, namely – the detection of missing laptop, which is set by the owner of the computer to an external Internet resource. Upon activation, Prey is starting to send emails with data set of the location of the laptop, which is calculated based on the current IP-address or service Google Location API close and open Wi-Fi networks. Moreover, the application makes hidden  photos through the web cam of the laptop, thereby helping to identify the thief. Prey screenshots remember to determine the actions performed on the computer accumulates statistics released applications and active network connections. The software is written in Bash, using standard system tools and there architecture modular allowing easy expansion of functionality.

Prey supports operating systems Windows, MacOS X different distributions of Linux. Also available is a module that sends the thief release, accompanied by sound signal offering his voluntary return to the laptop and the corresponding coordinates of the owner.

According to data of Prey, thieves don’t often formatted stolen laptops. Usually they want to know first what is useful information in the system. Thus, including a laptop in a public area with Wi-Fi access and Internet access via another connection, they released their location.

Troubleshooting Hard Drive

WD-HDDThis post aims to tell what is usually “break” in one hard drive and what problems may arise when trying to remove.

A little addition.
Many people talk about myths and legends, how they saved the information of the totally damaged disk, how their plates were landed, and hung outside a special reader, how even after 8 times low level formatting a result of permanence ripping. The truth is that, all attempts to retrieve information based on the use of standard magnetic heads using standard electronics and of course one way or another “revival” of the disk. The actual “recovery” does not mean much opportunity to use the disk as such and retrieving any data from it.

Basic troubleshooting tips and ways to eliminate them.

1. Imprint – the most common cause of failure in modern drives.

The reason for such defects are the most common deterioration of mechanical and / or electronics of the disk, but also in micro-programme errors. Is most often destroy those parts of micro-programme responsible for SMART Following the so-called effect of “instability of record” at work disk begins to generate errors (known as Bad sectors) As a consequence, the disk does not stop its work and continues to work at the time of work passing through such a sector attempts to read / write when returning an error code. Accordingly, the automatic isolation of the poor in particular sectors and SMART make relevant information professional settings. But due to the effect rather than to correct the work of the disk without the user understand the problems of professional information is partially or completely destroyed.

Destruction of official information is usually caused by such effects Unscrew the package with the heads without visible disk of the BIOS, but unscrew the incorrect parameters in the BIOS. Problems of this type are solved in general with the recovery of damaged parts. But unfortunately this is not simple. To solve the problem are much needed. However, the producers themselves do not provide this information. There are companies involved in the study of disks, their micro-programmes and development of software-hardware products in this area.

2. Electronics

Simple solution is just-burnt is replaced by a similar disk of a similar, but:
a. Finding such a part is not always easy, especially when the disc is boring already stopped production of and does not find in stores
b. In discs from the same manufacturer and of the same family happens to electronics are completely incompatible
c. The board of electronics is often part of the disk micro-programme which must coincide with what is written on the tables. Including different adaptive settings.

3. Failure to block the magnetic head or a switch.

Such failure is the most complex. Ie having to open the disk and replace blocks of magnetic heads. In this regard, it is usually a damaged media and over finding a donor may have a rather complex problem. To carry out this operation required a lot of experience and special equipment. Usually malfunction leads to total and irretrievable loss of data.

4. Destroyed file system

Seemingly the most elementary case. Formatting, accidental deletion of a document, folder or partition, virus attacks, soft Bad sectors, etc … On the market there are many products helps address issues of this kind each with its advantages and disadvantages. But experience shows that improper handling, however, also cause partial or total loss of data with the only difference that the media remains usable.

In conclusion I would allow myself to paraphrase a proverb. “Cheap always comes out more expensive.

Basic computer security

You must run quality security software on your computers to protect your work and private data from viruses, spyware, and other security threats. When it comes to security, there is no substitute for quality. See below our recommended quality solutions. If any of the following is difficult for you, get an IT Expert to do it for you. You must do the following or risk all of your work/data being compromised /think of it as locking your front door/:

Get good anti virus software e.g. one of the below.
Recommended antivirus software:
AVG
Avira
Norton Anti virus
McAffee Anti Virus
Panda Security
Sophos Anti Virus

Be sure to regularly update your ‘virus definitions’ e.g. once per week. Keep your Firewall runing. Install an anti-spyware application. There are many available, some good, some bad. Email Attachments: BEWARE OF ATTACHMENTS. Do not open email attachments you are not expecting. Viruses come with some very nasty messages to trick you into opening the attachement e.g. “Your email account has been cancelled, see attachment for details”. Even worse, the virus looks like it comes from an email address you recognise e.g. from admin@yourDomain.com / where ‘your domain’ is the domain name that you usually use /. Virus attachments can have the following ‘file extension’: .exe, .pif. If you receive a .zip attachment and open it – make sure it doesn’t contain a file with one of those extensions. Do not open attachments you haven’t requested, even if they appear to be from people you know.

Why do I receive, notices that emails from me could not be delivered?

How did someone else send an email that looked like it was from me?

Why do such emails seem to be from someone who is not in my organisation?

This is usually caused by a virus on someone elses computer sending the emails, but making it look like the emails are from you, or to put it another way: A virus that spoofs the ‘from address’. The important (and annoying) thing to note is that the virus is probably not on your computer, it is on someone elses. So even if you have quality anti-virus software that keeps your computer clean, there is someone else out there who’s computer is infected and sending these emails out.
Make sure you have good anti-virus software and tell everyone you know to do the same.

Laptop or Desktop

Laptop vs desktop?

The short and quick answer to this question is: According to your needs.
Overall, desktop systems are more convenient for maintenance and 2-4 times cheaper than a laptop with the same parameters. Do not forget that your laptop has a screen while desktop PC requires a separate monitor. Another advantage of the notebook, obviously, is that it is designed to be portable, which is indispensable if you travel frequently, need to work from many different places, etc. The third reason many people choose laptops over desktops is that they take almost no room. For a desktop configuration should be given a place to box, monitor, keyboard and mouse on the desk while the laptop is just open and enjoy, wherever he is on the other hand, if your work is mostly in one place, no need to drift computer back and forth, you’re too pressed with living area and especially if you want a machine for games – I strongly recommend you to navigate to the desktop or a fat wallet. Another argument in favor of desktop machines – much easier they can be added or replaced components for laptops, the situation is quite complicated.

Useful Enhancements in Windows 7

33. Hiding the Windows Live Messenger icon

If you use Windows Live Messenger a lot, you’ll have noticed that the icon now resides on the taskbar, where you can easily change status and quickly send an IM to someone. If you prefer to keep Windows Live Messenger in the system tray, where it’s been for previous releases, just close Windows Live Messenger, edit the shortcut properties and set the application to run in Windows Vista compatibility mode.

34. Customise UAC

Windows Vista’s User Account Control was a good idea in practice, but poor implementation put many people off – it raised far too many alerts. Fortunately Windows 7 displays less warnings by default, and lets you further fine-tune UAC to suit your preferred balance between security and a pop-up free life (Start > Control Panel > Change User Account Control Settings).

35. Use Sticky Notes

The Sticky Notes app is both simpler and more useful in Windows 7. Launch StikyNot.exe and you can type notes at the keyboard; right-click a note to change its colour; click the + sign on the note title bar to add another note; and click a note and press Alt + 4 to close the note windows (your notes are automatically saved).

36. Open folder in new process

By default Windows 7 opens folders in the same process. This saves system resources, but means one folder crash can bring down the entire shell. If your system seems unstable, or you’re doing something in Explorer that regularly seems to causes crashes, then open Computer, hold down Shift, right-click on your drive and select Open in New Process. The folder will now be launched in a separate process, and so a crash is less likely to affect anything else.

37. Watch more videos

Windows Media Player 12 is a powerful program, but it still won’t play all the audio and video files you’ll find online. Fortunately the first freeware Windows 7 codecs package [shark007.net/win7codecs.html] has been released, and installing it could get your troublesome multimedia files playing again.

38. Preview fonts

Open the Fonts window in Windows XP and Vista and you’ll see the font names, probably with icons to tell you whether they’re TrueType or OpenType, but that’s about it. Windows 7 sees some useful font-related improvements.

Open the new fonts window and you’ll find a little preview for every font, giving you a quick idea of how they’re going to look.

The tedium of scrolling through multiple entries for each family, like Times New Roman, Times New Roman Bold, Times New Roman Bold Italic and so on, has finally ended. There’s now just a single entry for each font (though you can still see all other members of the family).

And there’s a new OpenType font, Gabriola, added to the mix. It’s an attractive script font, well worth a try the next time you need a stylish document that stands out from the crowd.

39. Restore your gadgets

Windows 7 has tightened up its security by refusing to run gadgets if UAC has been turned off, so limiting the damage malicious unsigned gadgets can do to your system. If you’ve disabled UAC, miss your gadgets and are happy to accept the security risk, though, there’s an easy Registry way to get everything back to normal. Run REGEDIT, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Sidebar\Settings, create a new DWORD value called AllowElevatedProcess and set it to 1. Your gadgets should start working again right away.

40. New WordPad formats

By default WordPad will save documents in Rich Text Format, just as before. But browse the Save As Format list and you’ll see you can also save (or open, actually) files in the Office 2007 .docx or OpenDocument .odt formats.

bitlocker in windows741. Protect your data

USB flash drives are convenient, portable, and very easy to lose. Which is a problem, especially if they’re carrying sensitive data. Fortunately Windows 7 has the solution: encrypt your documents with an extension of Microsoft’s BitLocker technology, and only someone with the password will be able to access it. Right-click your USB flash drive, select Turn on BitLocker and follow the instructions to protect your private files.

PROTECT YOUR DATA: Your USB flash drives can easily be encrypted with BitLocker

42. Minimise quickly with shake

If you have multiple windows open on your desktop and things are getting too cluttered, it used to be a time-consuming process to close them all down. In Windows 7 you can use the Aero Shake feature to minimise everything in seconds, using a cool mouse gesture. Grab the title bar of the window you wish to keep open and give it a shake, and rejoice in a clear desktop area.

43. Configure your favourite music

The Windows 7 Media Centre now comes with an option to play your favourite music, which by default creates a changing list of songs based on your ratings, how often you play them, and when they were added (it’s assumed you’ll prefer songs you’ve added in the last 30 days). If this doesn’t work then you can tweak how Media Centre decides what a “favourite” tune is- click Tasks > Settings > Music > Favourite Music and configure the program to suit your needs.

44. Customise System Restore

There was very little you could do to configure System Restore in Vista, but Windows 7 improves the situation with a couple of useful setup options.

Click the Start orb, right-click Computer and select Properties > System Protection > Configure, and set the Max Usage value to a size that suits your needs (larger to hold more restore points, smaller to save disk space).

And if you don’t need System Restore to save Windows settings then choose the “Only restore previous versions of files” option. Windows 7 won’t back up your Registry, which means you’ll squeeze more restore points and file backups into the available disk space. System Restore is much less likely to get an unbootable PC working again, though, so use this trick at your own risk.

45. Run As

Hold down Shift, right-click any program shortcut, and you’ll see an option to run the program as a different user, handy if you’re logged in to the kids’ limited account and need to run something with higher privileges. This isn’t really a new feature – Windows XP had a Run As option that did the same thing – but Microsoft stripped it out of Vista, so it’s good to see it’s had a change of heart.

46. Search privacy

By default Windows 7 will remember your PC search queries, and display the most recent examples when searching in Windows Explorer. If you’re sharing a PC and don’t want everyone to see your searches, then launch GPEDIT.MSC, go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer, double-click “Turn off display of recent search entries…” and click Enabled > OK.

47. Tweak PC volume

By default Windows 7 will now automatically reduce the volume of your PC’s sounds whenever it detects you’re making or receiving PC-based phone calls. If this proves annoying (or maybe you’d like it to turn off other sounds altogether) then you can easily change the settings accordingly. Just right-click the speaker icon in your taskbar, select Sounds > Communications, and tell Windows what you’d like it to do.

48. Rearrange the system tray

With Windows 7 we finally see system tray icons behave in a similar way to everything else on the taskbar. So if you want to rearrange them, then go right ahead, just drag and drop them into the order you like. You can even move important icons outside of the tray, drop them onto the desktop, then put them back when you no longer need to keep an eye on them.

49. Extend your battery life

Windows 7 includes new power options that will help to improve your notebook’s battery life. To see them, click Start, type Power Options and click the Power Options link, then click Change Plan Settings for your current plan and select Change Advanced Settings. Expand Multimedia Settings, for instance, and you’ll see a new “playing video” setting that can be set to optimise power savings rather than performance. Browse through the other settings and ensure they’re set up to suit your needs.

50. Write crash dump files

Windows 7 won’t create memory.dmp crash files if you’ve less than 25GB of free hard drive space, annoying if you’ve installed the Windows debugging tools and want to diagnose your crashes. You can turn this feature off, though: browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl, create a new DWORD value called AlwaysKeepMemoryDump, set it to 1, and the crash dump file will now always be saved.

Mouse not recognised and USB Keyboard occasionally not recognised

I'm on Windows XP, AMD Athlon 2.19 Ghz, 608MB RAM, The mouse has no manufacturer on it and the drivers don't show up in Device Manager.

For the keyboard, in Device Manager, under keyboards, it says: 'HID Keyboard Device' and 'Standard 101/103-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard'

The Mouse is connected with a small circular input which I think is a serial port.

When I unplug the mouse, the computer makes a high pitched circular noise, almost melodic, this only happened twice.

The mouse is there in the middle of the screen, but doesn't respond. In safe mode, it still doesn't respond.

I don't have another mouse to test, but the sensor light at the bottom still works, if that's relevant and I haven't installed any new hardware recently.

In what I feel is related (as I'm reckoning this is an SCSI problem), I tried to update the SCSI and RAID driver, but it failed to do so and said 'an error occurred during the installation of the device. The specified service does not exist as an installed service.' Now, every time I boot the computer, a 'Found New Hardware' Wizard starts up, again trying to download the driver and again failing.

Virtual Memory vs Page File

Virtual Memory vs Page File

virtual memoryUsing virtual memory is a common approach to operating systems. This is because it provides a lot of advantages at low cost. As you know each computer has a memory (RAM), which have all running programs. Each process takes their part of the memory and if you open too many programs it can do. Here comes the virtual memory support.

By using virtual memory, regular parts of your RAM that you have not used recently are recorded on the hard disk. Thus frees up space in RAM memory for new programs. The transfer of parts from memory and recording them on the hard disk automatically and is managed by the operating system. Thanks to virtual memory, you have a lot more memory than as your real RAM. Obtained much more efficient use of RAM, only the most accessible parts of it actually remains on it and transfer of unused hard disk. If a process is requested information located on the hard disk, it is transferred to memory. If no empty memory, the portion of employees transferred to the hard disk.

What is Page file (page file)?

The hard disk where this information is recorded is called the Page file (page file). The name comes from the word page (page). When using virtual memory, real memory is divided into equal-sized sections called pages. These are pieces of information to be transferred. The idea of ??virtual memory is that each program thinks it has more memory than it actually is free. Use virtual addresses that are different from the real addresses in memory. Thus two different processes can operate with the same virtual addresses. Later they are converted to different real addresses. That is, the programs work with virtual addresses and real hardware. To convert a virtual address is used in a real page table (page table). This table contains information that associates each virtual page and address in real memory or address in the Page file (page file).

Where should be the Page file (page file)?

For faster operation of virtual memory Page file should be readily accessed by the head of the hard disk. If you have one hard drive, place the file in the Page Title, which has the most activity, ie they are installed programs. There is the chance for a head on the hard disk most of the time. If you have more than one hard disk, place the file in the Page in which no operating system is installed and in which there is not much activity. Thus, where once the file is accessible chapters of this hard drive will remain there and are ready to access it quickly.

What should be the size of the Page File?

It is often debated question. Unfortunately the answer is very simple and unambiguous. Many times I’ve seen it recommended size is 1.5 or 2 times the amount of RAM. Also minimum and maximum sizes are the same so as not to delay receiving a change of its size.

pagefileIf you follow these recommendations should I set my Page file (page file) is always 3GB. This is not the best solution. The minimum size it is better to be as much as normal its usability. Look in Task Manager-a and see how, in normal operation as above is its size. This is the value that will ensure that there is constantly increasing and decreasing. Maximum size is no longer a problem to be quite large value, provided that you have hard disk space. For example I have 1.5GB RAM memory, and looked the size of the Page file is currently about 400 – 500MB. I opened the browser, antivirus, Skype and a few small programs which are generally open, plus a working program. Overall, this is the most frequent state of my computer. I think I set a minimum size Page file (page file) 500MB, but because I have plenty of room to set maximum size 2GB. These 2GB plus my 1.5GB RAM memory to me quite enough, at least in Windows XP. Naturally it will be even better if I have more RAM, then you will use even less virtual memory. If your computer using multiple user accounts and switch between accounts remain many programs included, you will probably need a bigger Paige file.

Disadvantages of virtual memory

Disadvantages of virtual memory are mainly two. The first is that the Page file takes up space on your hard disk. That is almost no problem, unless your drive has a small capacity. The second and major disadvantage is connected with the speed of the disk. While RAM is fast enough, we can not say the same for hard drives. His speed read / write is quite low and it greatly reduces performance when using virtual memory. If a computer has less RAM, it is increasingly relying on virtual. So he often exchanges information with the Page file and it is felt by a significant delay in the work. If enough RAM, almost no delay due to virtual memory.

History of virtual memory

In the 40's and 50's of the 20th century, before the introduction of virtual memory, larger programs themselves have served its function. They have guided the transfer of information between primary and secondary storage device and vice versa (from RAM to the hard disk and vice versa). This is one of the reasons for the introduction of virtual memory – to ease developers in making these programs. Virtual memory was developed in the period around 1959-1962 year. Naturally there was a lot of problems and disputes related thereto. For example the need for complicated and expensive hardware and the oppression of experts that the technology will be much less effective than previous similar technologies. In 1969 Division reversed and it began to be applied in commercial products. The first one computer is using virtual memory NORD-1. Originally used segment separation of memory and later pagination (paging).

Moving programs to create space on hard drive

Moving installed programs may not be very clean (depending upon the program itself)
All standalone programs, or even programs that only write to one folder when installing shouldn't be a concern too much (ie There still may be shortcuts and registry entries to be concerned about)

But programs such as an Antivirus, or Office, or even many games, install to multiple folders!
In this case (although there are 'move programs' that try to do this) your best option is to uninstall these large space consuming programs, and then just cleanly re-install them to your D Drive.
Think of it this way, if your 'C' Drive fails one day, you may need to do this anyway (re-install programs)

Another option (and probably preferred under the circumstances!) is to get a larger capacity 'C' drive itself.
This obviously depends upon if C & D are partitions or 2 physical drives? In either case, you may want to think about purchasing a larger drive. 2 Gig left, means you actually prefer the C drive anyway, plus many programs don't have the modify option of installing to another drive anyway.
